Easy Install Flash Player In Ubuntu

On the newly installed Ubuntu system, you need to perform some installations to make it fully functional desktop system. For example the mp3 plugins are not installed by default, and may be you need to configure your wireless drivers. One more thing you must do is to install the flash player to be able to stream multimedia content, (such as videos) in your browser. This article explains how you can install flash player in your Ubuntu system.

Installing Flash Player

1. Using Command Line

You need to install the package 'flashplugin-installer' for flash player. Installing this package will fetch the adobe flash player and install the required library and other files. All you need to do is issue the following command and hit 'Y' when prompted. Here is the detailed output of this command.

$ sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer

You can install the same from synaptic package manager.

2. Automatic method

In your browser, try playing an online video that requires adobe flash player. The browser will pop up a notification for installing the missing plugin.

Click the button 'Install Missing Plugins...'. The plugin finder service will find the adobe flash plugin and prompt you to install it. Hit 'Next' to proceed.

Hit 'Install' to start downloading and installing the flash player plugin.
Provide your 'sudo' user's password when prompted.
