How to Install Popcorn Time on Ubuntu 16, Mint 18, Kali Linux

I have an option for you to watch your next favorite TV show episode straightaway without downloading it and It is absolutely free. Popcorn time streams movies and TV shows from torrents directly into your screen.

Popcorn Time constantly searching all over the web for the best torrents from the most important sites. It also brings the best version possible in HD with subtitles. It is supported for almost all platforms like Linux, Windows, Mac, Android. We will see how to install and use Popcorn Time on Linux in this article.

Install Popcorn-Time on Linux

On Ubuntu 16.04

I will use ubuntu 16.04 for demonstration purpose. Same steps can be performed on other Linux platforms as well.
Step 1: Download the latest Popcorn Time binaries and extract it into your choice of directory. I will extract it in /opt/popcorn-time/. To do the same, execute below steps. I am using 64-bit operating system, You can get the link of 32-bit binaries from Popcorn-Time.

$ mkdir /opt/popcorn-time
$ wget https://get.popcorntime.sh/build/Popcorn-Time-0.3.10-Linux-64.tar.xz
$ tar -xf Popcorn-Time-0.3.10-Linux-64.tar.xz -C /opt/popcorn-time/

Step 2: Now We have binaries of Popcorn-time available in the machine, Let's create a soft link of popcorn time executable in /usr/bin so that non-privileged user can launch popcorn time from the command line. Execute below command.

$ sudo ln -sf /opt/popcorn-time/Popcorn-Time /usr/bin/popcorn-time

Step 3: Now, we need to create Desktop launcher to launch Popcorn time from unity dash or program launcher. Create new desktop entry file using your favorite text editor and add the content as show below.

$ sudo vi /usr/share/applications/popcorntime.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Version = 1.0
Type = Application
Terminal = false
Name = Popcorn Time
Exec = /usr/bin/popcorn-time
Icon = /opt/popcorn-time/src/app/images/popcorntime.png
Categories = Application;

Step 4: Execute below commands to install dependent library libgconf-2-4.

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install libgconf-2-4

If you have extracted binaries at the location other than /opt/popcorn-time, Update the value of Icon variable in above entry accordingly.

Bingo, You have successfully installed and configured Popcorn-time on Ubuntu 16.04. Now, Start the application by searching Popcorn-time in programs.

Once the application is launched, Accept Agreement license.

Now, You can search your favorite movies and TV series, There are separate tabs for that.

Install Popcorn-Time on Linux

On Mint 18

Step 1: Download the latest Popcorn Time binaries and extract it into your choice of directory. I will extract it in /opt/popcorn-time/. To do the same, execute below steps. I am using 64-bit operating system, You can get the link of 32-bit binaries from Popcorn-Time.

$ mkdir /opt/popcorn-time
