A New Icon Theme For Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr

Matthieu James (Graphic/Visual Designer at Canonical) did a presentation today on G+ hangout about new icon theme for Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr. The structure of his presentation included issues with current themes, initial research and the actual state of the icon project.

James's presentation tells us what is wrong with mobile icons. The following list shows what is wrong with the mobile icons:

  1. Icons evolved over the time without a global consideration for the Ubuntu user experience
  2. Monochromatic icons have moved aways from the Ubuntu font patterns as originally conceived
  3. Lack of defined colour palette, graphic style and framing

The new icon theme is planned to be used on Ubuntu touch devices, but it might also be available for Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr on the desktop. These following screenshots are taken from the G+ hangout presentation. I used the Take Screenshot app to capture them, but the quality is not very good for the only reason that I took them from G+ hangout.
