How To Install Eclipse 4.3.1 In Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Eclipse IDE is considered to be one of best Java development tool available today so i thought to make this tutorial on how to install it in Ubuntu Linux 12.04 LTS. To make everything clear and easy let me tell you guys what do you need for this tutorial in order to go any further.

We need:

  1. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
  2. Java JRE or JDK
  3. The latest eclipse package

Now open a new terminal (CTRL+ALT+T )and run the first command to install Java JRE or the second command to install Java JDK

sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jre

sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jdk

Then download the latest Eclipse here

Now we need to extract the downloaded file somewhere and in order to this you guys should have some knowledge about the tar command. You can get some knowledge about it in our article on How To Use Linux Tar Command.

Decompress the file.

gunzip eclipse-standard-kepler-SR1-linux-gtk.tar.gz

Extract the tar archive with the following command.

tar -xvf eclipse-standard-kepler-SR1-linux-gtk.tar

Note: Make sure you are in the same directory where the eclipse file is while running all the above commands.

cd to the eclipse directory.

cd eclipse

ls

Then run the following command to run the eclipse file.

./eclipse

Select a workspace.

install eclipse ide in ubuntu

install eclipse in ubuntu
